About

“I am Tynisha Leon, but you may call me DASHEEN.“

Dasheen 2011

I’m Tynisha Leon, writer, mango-lover, founder and Editor-in-Chief of DASHEEN magazine — the online destination where Culture. Feeds. Imagination!

It’s easy to see how a Tynisha became a Dasheen. It makes perfect sense if you understand that DASHEEN magazine was birthed from that need to reconnect with a cultural heritage that was fierce, filling and most often bore a feminine carriage.  I’ve also been called Dasheen more often than Tynisha within this space I created in April 2010 and I appreciate the love to the fullest!

The Caribbean community and Diaspora is global. I feel my roots here, and there, and I am ever proud to be called one out of many!  Stick with me as I ramp up activities and continue bringing you VIEWS, VOICES and VISION straight from the heart of DASHEEN.

DASHEEN

Dasheen (noun) Plant used primarily for its edible root. The leaves are also edible.

DASHEEN magazine is the online destination where culture feeds imagination.

As founder, editor in chief, promoter and proud hostess of DASHEEN magazine, allow me to welcome you to a new space carved out for all of us who feel that strong connection as sons and daughters of the soil, that is, the Caribbean region.

DASHEEN magazine is YOU!  I make no distinction between those who are born and bred or those who have been adopted. First generation, second generation, no relation, you better know you’re welcome.

Wherever we may call home, especially for those of us who are not privileged to feel that trade wind carrying them through this life on the daily, this one is for us!

Did I say how much love our feel, and our stretch, and our pull, and our muscle, and our cultural diversity? Well, I absolutely do!

So look around, correspond, wave your flag and join the growing DASHEEN family—your creative energy is always welcome.

I hope something resonates here. I hope you visit often, and I hope you bring friends—Lord knows I have too many lovely friends who live vicariously through my memories to put up any velvet ropes.

Besides all that, I do believe that ultimately, ‘we all ah one!’

Always Love,

Tynisha aka Dasheen

Welcome my friend! It was such a confirmation last night. I was reflecting on how my thoughts to God were just brought to fruition so quickly. In a room full of brilliance you were so bright and God allowed a connection. For these things and more, I just remain thankful, humbled and ever blessed! Thank you for the words of encouragement. Looking forward to linking.
