Sunday Sessions: Consistency and Change
There is power in consistency! Someone significant said this to me and I’ve never forgotten it. It’s something that I strive for, but I also recognize with it, a woman’s prerogative to change her mind, or with the seasons as it were.
The song prodding this post along, a summer hit in 2002 which still evokes strong feeling and inspires a certain can-do spirit:
As “The First day of summer…” crawls across the screen as a sort of headliner at the beginning, I thought about just how much we ascribe to the importance of seasons in our lives and the impetus/permission we feel it gives us to live or hibernate (die).
It’s a natural inclination. You don’t have to be apart of some Ecclesia to vibe with the truth of there being a time and place for everything under the sun. Truth happening all around us once again, and definitely without our permission.
And if you live in a place where the environment changes with any degree of predictability every four months or so, you use these seasons as markers and opportunities for change or sometimes to revert.
“Come with me. Tomorrow ain’t guaranteed… Why don’t we? Why don’t we fall in love!?”
So I’ll focus on Fall. Not the pride coming before the fall, or falling in-love which I focused so heavily on last week, or the ‘we fall down and we get up’ message; but just the excuse that Fall usually provides for us to slip under cover once again—to hide whatever strides we have made, or our missed goals, or the failures of not measuring up to standards set, by society, family, friends or ourselves.
I’m in a Fall state-of-mind. Period!
However, that doesn’t mean I want to hide, and it has nothing to do with residing in a 24-hour mostly sunshine clime and wanting change. It simply means that I don’t want to fight nature, but I want to thrive in it. I want to allow color to reign in my life, in my personality, in my smile, in my wardrobe. And maybe I’ll be stripped bare and humbled by a certain lack, but that only predicts the deepest well of thanks for when I am full.
I’ve got something kinda miraculous going on right now and I’m fully invested in the watering of that. But I know for a fact that too many times, I and you invest in sabotage, because we want to tarnish/bruise the rose that already comes with thorns. Discomfort is a natural inclination of the living and breathing. You don’t need to pull any extra weight or drama. These things can find there own way in, especially if you’re not proactive.
According to the US Government calendar, Fall starts on September 22. Well, I am 10 days too early, and children come into this world when they will, and I want seasons to be a state of mind in my life, and ultimately, I am ready to grow into this Fall of my life.
You know what I’m cultivating:
-
Love,
Forgiveness,
And yes, that aforementioned Power in Consistency
I could go on, but I’ll leave space for you.
I encourage every last one of you who will read this page to be BOLD and STRONG. Be who you are, but embrace change fully if you’re not where you need to be. Don’t fall into any old patterns of thinking. There is power in consistency, even with the dichotomy of impending change.
Remember if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.
Challenge for the Week of 9/12 — 9/18
Stand up for yourself in that situation that’s been making you weak. Don’t retreat. Put on the whole armor of who you were meant to be one peace at a time. When you’ve done what you have to do this week. Look at yourself—from the front, side and back. You’ve never looked better and it only gets better!

Women—actually let me not indict my population, lol I can obsess and often I just need an excuse to switch it up. So yeah change and consistency have their own rhythm and I’m trying to do a better job of balancing them.
